MAGNETS

  • Some things will stick to magnets, especially iron.
  • Magnets can be used to push or pull objects together
  • Magnetism is a force
  • If we took all of the iron out of our body there would be about a nailsworth. The iron that would come out of our body could be magnetized.
  • Magnets are used many ways in our everyday lives.
  1. Credit cards
  2. Cars
  3. Jewelry

Olympic Writing

Yesterday we had to write a piece of writing for our teacher (Mrs Baker-Sherman) about us competing at the olympics. What we could compete in was up to us. It didn't have to be an olympic sport it could be anything- (eg. skateboarding, rollerskating...) I choose to write about competing in a dance competition.

WALT-  Create a piece of personal writing using complex sentences, adjectives and similes.

I have spent more time at my studio than my house over the past years. There in week days dancing and teaching, there in the weekends teaching and doing jobs. There every second I could possibly be. I was there if sun or shine. I was there late nights and early mornings practising. Stretching when I woke up and before I went to bed. I was a starstruck lover, in love with dance and my studio.
It’s a magical thing to watch! It’s the language from soul, it’s dreaming with your feet, it’s my life.
I stood in the wings. Seeing the other competitors leave their hearts and souls on the stage.

It had all lead up to this. That moment when I step on the stage it all begins... For real. I was as nervous as a mouse getting chased by a cat. I remember what Corrine told me ‘Practice like you’ve never won, Perform like you’ve never lost.’ all I had to remember was ‘Dance with your heart not your mind, dancers aren’t great because of their technique they are great because of their passion!’ I took my position on stage. I know I have a beautiful dance and beautiful costume. Now I just have to actually do it!

There is no greater bliss than dancing and performing. And I’m doing both at the same time! I feel invincible, wonderful, amazing, excited, nervous! But most of all I feel happy. Dance has me some really hard times. It’s kept me going when I was sad, mad, doubtful of my worth. It is my passion and my life and now I am pursuing it. I dance like there is tomorrow and as the crowd cheers as loud as a siren and screams ,of amazement, like crying baby. A smile as big as Cheshire Cats’ creeps across my face.

I danced amazingly! Or so I am told. For those 3:00 minutes I danced, I completely escaped the pressure of the world! Now for the moment I have been waiting for my whole life. “The winner of your Olympic 2024 Dance Talent Competition is…” `

Lego People Art

In the first week of term we had Mrs. Lovatt as a reliever for whole week. One of the art tasks we were given was to create our own lego people. The class was given the basic outline of a lego person and then we let our imagination run wild. We had everything from pigs, unicorns, superheros, surfers, cheerleaders and gymnasts.

Electronics 2016

This term for technology I have been in electronics with Mrs Houghton. We have created an emergency light to help us see or to get to our families or safe point in an emergency occurred. I am pleased with how my light turned out on a whole. I enjoyed making a mini movie on my light. The most challenging thing was finding a good photo that resembled something in a or to do with an emergency. I thought that the most difficult thing was soldering also. Below is a picture of the final project.

Keith Haring Artwork Intro

We are learning about the art work of Keith Haring. He used bright colours and simple designs based on the human body. We have used an interactive website to create and colour a picture like his. A lot of his artwork had messages and so did my. I have done lots of flying people and words in between them say ' I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky!'

The making of me- interactive website!

Today we have been exploring a site ( the making of me and you ) that gives heaps of interesting facts about our body. All you have to do is put your date of birth, gender, weight and height, then you're away! After gathering some of my most interesting facts I have made a tagul. Check out the link up top and give it a go :-)

The Body- Te Reo Style!

Yesterday in Te Reo/ Inquiry we had to find the maori name for a list of body parts and then label them next to a body.

Logos in maths!

Over the past two days in maths, we have had the task of creating a logo for a new brand of car, lollies, clothing item etc. that must show some form of translation, rotation or reflection. I have created a logo for a new brand of togs. It shows rotation and the shape of the fish can have horizontal line of symmetry through the middle.

Ode to my Abs

Oh! How I miss you dearly.
I had all 6 of you hard as rocks,
but now…
But now like a fox you have snuck away .
Two of you faintly,
are still hopefully here to stay.
You made my nickname so real
and the happiness I would feel,
when people say...
“ Bet you don’t have abs!
Probably have flabs!”
They were wrong, so wrong!
You complimented me so nicely,
but I must admit at times you were pricey๐Ÿ’ต
All the sit-ups and crunches,
Not being able to have that piece of cake๐Ÿฐ
in my school lunches!
Oh, how I do miss you dearly,
But now I must stop before I get teary๐Ÿ˜ข

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reflection

๐Ÿ˜Š-  I really like how my poem has used rhyming .
๐Ÿ˜‡- I think that I have used all of the success criteria well.
๐Ÿ˜– - Next time I think I could do a more 'helpful' body part.

First session in electronics!

Image result for getr eady get thru
My learning journey in electronics began today. I found that the ' Get ready Get thru' website says that we need a torch with spare batteries in our emergency kit. I am going to design and make a torch ready for an emergency.

Sculpt it!

Revolving around this terms inquiry 'The amazing human machine!' room four had the challenge of making a suitable body part out of plasticine. We partnered up and had 15 minutes to make our body part. When we received our plasticine it was really hard so we had to kneed it so we were able to mold it. What worked well in our group was that we were the only group who did a stomach with abs and also we just got stuck into it. I think what could do next time to improve would be using more elements of 3D.

Wai and I making our stomach and abs.

Our final product.

The Blood Test

The term our focus has been on recounting people, places and experiences in our life. In the book, we read this term ( 'Boy' by Roald Dahl) he had written a story about being dunked in a cold bath. We have used this as our model. Here is my recount of an event I remember from my past.

The Blood Test...
Image result for clipart needleI had never ever been so scared, nervous, terrified and excited all at once. I was in the very full blood test waiting room. We were like a tin of sardines, packed full to the brim, not everyone being able to sit down. I could feel my racing heart, climbing up my throat about to jump out of my mouth. I was number 12. Suddenly the nurse came out and said “Number 12 please.” I wasn’t sniffing an onion but still my eyes were to tearing up.

Walking into the cupboard-like room, I could hear my heart pounding and the person in the other room cringing . Shaking, I sat down on the supposedly comfy chair and the old bag of a nurse squeezed that band around my arm. “ Could you pull it any tighter?” I thought to myself. The nurse exclaimed to my Mum, “ I’m going to take three tubes of blood is that ok?:”  “No!” I thought. “ Yea sure that's fine” my mum states. Astonished, I scowl at my Mum like an annoyed cat. The nurse said “ It’s only a little prick dear, over in a minute…”

“Holy Guacamole!” She jabbed the spiky needle into my poor arm, like my eyes were a tap, the water came rushing out. Oh! The pain, the pain. It was in there for so, so long. Honestly it was like I died, went to heaven, came back and still the needle was in there!  “And done.” Finally the wrinkled prune pulled the deadly needle out. Hallelujah! “See you next time.” She smiled. ‘Yea… Hopefully never!’

Self Reflection

๐Ÿ’œ I really liked in my story the choice of words that could make the reader ‘feel’ the pain I was in.
๐Ÿ’™My starter hooks the reader in and I have used paragraphs correctly.

๐Ÿ’”When writing a past tense story I need to work on linking words related to time.

Anzac Tagul

Today we watched a short film called Jack and Tom. It was about two friends who fought together during WW1. Here are some of the words that represent what ANZAC means to us today.

Maths Today...

In this mornings maths lesson, we learnt how to find all the prime numbers up to 100 using the sieve of Eratosthenes. A prime number is a number that can only be multiplied by 1 and itself. 1 is not a prime number because it only has itself and not another factor.

My Special Place Poem

WALT- Use our senses to write a poem about a special place.

To be successful we needed to use at least 3 of the 5 senses, have 3 or more verses and have some sort of repetition after each verse. (eg. Mahia is like that.)

My Special Place

I walk in there and automatically,
a smiles grows upon my face.
I feel as free as a bird,
as the adrenal pumps in my lungs.
I can’t wait to start.

My special place is like that.

5,6,7,8! The music booms and
the passion of performing is released.
The tappers will tap while others pant
and stretch till we can hardly walk!
But it all is worth it.

My special place is like that.

Faint smells of b.o, deodorant
and hairspray are all normal
Don’t mind the the slight mess
I love it here just like the rest.

My Dance Studio is like that.

Quirky Quick Writes

WALT- Use our imaginations to write on a variety of topics for 5-10 minutes each day. I hope you enjoy reading these.

It was a stormy day…  The wind was whistling and howling like a wolf. I sat pouty face, bored brained in the pitch black except for a candle looking at the rain splattered window. I was home alone and the storm gods were throwing a major hissy fit! Shiver creep up my spine like a snake and the butterflies in my tummy! Don’t get started. Where is Mum? I think to myself. I sneeze but even though  me being home alone someone said bless you…

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inside Mrs Pratchett's filthy, grey, breakfast covered apron pocket there was a jungle... For one there was a horrifying smell that killed some of the dead cockroaches  and mice inside there! Old rotten lollies, dirty socks, some spare change but the worse thing inside that filthy apron was…  A  grotty, wooden spoon that must have been as old as her! She used it to whack little boys knuckles if she caught them stealing a lollie out of a jar that they hadn't paid for! They little boys would shriek in fear “ Please Mrs Pratchett I was only tasting it to see if I liked it! Then I would have paid for it. Please don’t!”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weeeeeeeeeee! Thump… We land on the power line. “Hooray, we’re free!
we signal happily to each other.  “ Finally away from that octopus killer, terrible smelling scum bag!” Feeling victorious, my senses were telling me something is wrong. Now I can smell it… I look left, right, forwards, backward, up and then I look down… ‘Crikey!’ All of my tentacles are burning and sizzling like stake from the power lines!  “ What am I going to do? I thought I was free from death for a little while longer!” I whine, whilst crying and burning. Sizzle, Sizzle, Sizzle. I’m gone...

Apocalypse Short Film- Scene Descriptions

WALT- Add detail to our writing to describe a setting.

This week in class we watched a short film called Apocalypse. We had to chose a scene to describe. I have done one about when they are in their room/house. My other one is about a school playground in the short film.

Apocalypse
Run-down and crusty, the school playground sadly weeps away. No one playing on their accessories. No one laughing and giggling. Alone… Rustling leaves and a few dead rodents whisper in the mouldy corners. Creeeeeek! The swings shake, moving back and forth, back and forth…

Apocalypse 2
Here is this room sitting alone. Crusty and dull, nothing much to it. A few bits and a bobs lying around, some water…. Eerie, you might say. Lights flicker like a dying firefly. The loose screw door rattles away. Here is this room sitting alone...
